The Encyclopedia of Life is the brainchild of Paddy Patterson at Woods Hole, MA. The object is simple; bring the diversity of life on the planet to everyone.
Do I need to explain what a gold mine this is to a research fanatic? One of the regions I explore in my free time (LOL!) is the limitations to human cognition. One of the areas in this region is the limits on human imagination. A town in this area is "Can humans imagine a life form that isn't based on the environmental rules found on planet earth?" This may seem "out there" to some and it's not. I've spent some time exploring first contact situations because the anthropologist's first contact situation is the marketer's daily life, hence communications, how it occurs and why, is very important to me business-wise, hence understanding the limits to communications is important, hence understanding what needs to occur for individual A not to recognize individual B is communicating is important.
As in, you created some marketing material and nobody paid attention to it.
And part of this exploration allows me to understand the diversity of life upon the planet and how different systems of communication evolve between species, because there are no two more different species than male and female.
And you folks thought I was just another pretty face. Ha.
