It's an excellent question that I've been pondering for a while. NextStage has been monitoring how the politicians are using social media to get their messages out, something they didn't do in either 2000 or 2004 (or at least not as much). I mentioned at the Boston SNCR Symposium that politicians are using social media in different ways. Some of this research appears in Bloggers, influence and your brand and Controlling a brand conversation.
This coming Thursday, 7 Feb 08, I'll be on the Civics, Social Media and the Countdown to Election '08 and one of the things I hope to learn from the others in attendance is whether or not the concept of value propositions as such have a place in the political marketing lexicon.
For example, Senator Obama's value proposition is "We Can Change". Clean, neat, simple (these are my opinions based on some research. I'm not claiming what follows as an "x=y" paradigm). Senator McCain's value prop is "A Stronger America". He states it a little differently (major threat is ..., we need to do xyz at our borders..., ...).
I'd appreciate learning from readers what they think the other candidate's value propositions are, and thanks.
Please contact NextStage for information regarding presentations and trainings on this and other topics.
