I have always been fascinated by science and have viewed quack science (pseudoscience, antiscience, call it what you will) as a kind of pun or some such in the language of exploration. My mother-in-law use to routinely buy the New Year's edition of the grocery store checkout rags and go through the psychic's predictions for a given year. Susan and I, when checking out, will often pick up on of them to read while we're in line and make unkind comments about the stories therein. Whether you accept the science in these tabloids or not, you can get mainstream science's take on sidestream science on a variety of sites, some of which even rate how far from mainstream science these other stories are.
I don't think the Ignobles need to worry, though. I mean, that is real science gone off a bit, not non-science attempting sainthood.
I would be remiss unless I also noted just how much of what is today's quack and pseudoscience is tomorrow's established fact. Remember, don't sail too far from the shore...you'll fall over the edge of the earth.
