Client Concerns for 2008
NextStage: Predictive Intelligence, Persuasion Engineering, Interactive Analytics and Behavioral Metrics I keep on thinking I'm done traveling for a while only to learn there's something that needs my attention. My latest bit of island hopping had me meeting clients to learn their concerns for 2008. Normally these concerns are market share, market growth, budgeting, r&d requirements, advertising, design, ..., things NextStage can generally offer some guidance on.

This time out several companies shared concerns that go well beyond NextStage's purview. They're fascinating concerns, just beyond what we can do. I was intrigued that this kind of information was shared. It's an indication of how comfortable folks are with me. I'm sharing it here sans company info because they are never-the-less fascinating examples of what things concern F500 companies.

  • Recycled Paper - One of our clients purchases some 200M tons of recycled paper each year to use as raw material. "It's a global economy and more and more of that recycled paper is going overseas." Because this client's raw material is going overseas, the price they have to pay for it is going up. As their raw material price goes up there's less money in the budget for initiatives, hence the group NextStage deals with spends a lot of time watching the price of recycled paper and managing the purchase of same closely. Whoa!
  • Installing Vista - I've written before about the Vista operating system in Vista Me Not. A concern I heard from a client dealt with a requirement to install Vista in some 80 different plants in 2008. This client believed their entire IT department would be going under the bunker by the time this was done. Another Colorado based client said much the same thing, except their deal with Microsoft was that Microsoft would come in and perform the install and insure everything was operational before they left. That was six months ago and MS personnel are still on the scene.
And you? What are your concerns for a safe and pleasant business '08?

Please contact NextStage for information regarding presentations and trainings on this and other topics.
