Anyway, WindKiller sent me this and I love it.
"Edge Designs is an all-women run company that designs interior office space. They had a recent opportunity to do an office project in NYC. The client allowed the women of this company a free hand in all design aspects. The client was a company that was also run by all women execs.............The result.........well.....We all know that men never talk .never look at each other....and never laugh much in the restroom.... The men's room is a serious and quiet place...... .....But now...with the addition of one mural on the wall......lets just say the men's restroom is a place of laughter and smiles... "
Something like this really draws my feminine side out. I laughed out loud at this and know not all men would. It is, to me, an excellent example of gender specific marketing.
I mentioned in Sweetness' Findings: Men Drivers that one of my mentors taught me three jokes, one only men will laugh at, one only women will laugh at and one both genders will laugh at. Catch me offline some time and I'll share them with you.
This mural is right up there with an example of the differences between the genders.
Thanks to WindKiller for sending this. Just keep him away from your kites.
Please contact NextStage for information regarding presentations and trainings on this and other topics.
I'll be speaking at the San Francisco April '07 Emetrics Summit on Quantifying and Optimizing the Human Side of Online Marketing on May 7, 2007. Come on by and say hello.

Great photo, the story, however, is apocryphal (Edge Designs is an all-women-run interior design company. Project in NYC....). It is in fact in a men's restroom at Sofitel (5 star hotel, operated by Accor Hotels) in Queenstown, New Zealand http://www.sofitelqueenstown.com. Here is a news article about it :http://www.hotelnewsresource.com/article19048.html/, and a tv news story: mms://media.tvnz.co.nz/news/toilets_101005_56k.wmv. It was designed by http://www.perron.com/ Here is a comment from its marketing manager: http://polizeros.com/2006/03/29/mens-restroom-mural.

I don’t know where you got the information on Edge Design from but it’s totally fictitious. I am the Marketing Manager at Perron Developments in New Zealand. We designed and produced this mens room wall in the Sofitel Hotel in Queenstown which our company developed. It has been widely acclaimed for nearly 2 years now but not until now “claimed” by someone else. If the Edge Design NYC really exists you would have to wonder why they need to rip someone else’s idea off like this.
