Sweetness' Research on Job Hunting, Part 4
NextStage: Predictive Intelligence, Persuasion Engineering, Interactive Analytics and Behavioral Metrics Here we are in part 4 of Sweetness' arc on how job hunting has changed in the internet age. I shared with Sweetness that people were commenting on what she offered to share more of her research. Sweetness is available for presentations on the topics of job hunting online and resume submission.

Part 1 had the story of FG, one of Sweetness' research subjects. Part 2 dealt with a qualified candidate dealing with a company that had some incredible expectations and part 3 dealt with misleading job postings. Here we touch on the subject of job boards.

"This lack of accurate job descriptions or any information at all led to some frustrating experiences for BJ.

BJ belongs to many job boards, one will sweep other job sites for similar positions that BJ is interested in. There were four positions being listed on this job sweeper for the same company that BJ thought they might be a fit for. Every link that they tried to any of the jobs came back with a message saying that the job didn’t exist. All four jobs indicated that they were posted on that day as new, so BJ, being the resourceful person, decided to check out the company’s web site for the job information.

After much searching she found the career section and looked for the Marketing positions. Nothing. Ok she thought, maybe it’s a stray neutrino and it prevented the jobs from being posted. So, the next day BJ tries the links and also goes to the company’s web site. Same thing, nothing listed. Not to be stopped she keeps looking on the company’s web site and finds a place where you can email some one about an in-store job, not a home office marketing position. BJ decides that she’ll give this a go, maybe this store recruiter has some information. She’s waiting to hear back."

I was talking with some folks about Sweetness' research and I'm sorry to say that she's coming up with the rules, not the exceptions. One of the things Sweetness wrote about in Sweetness' Research on Job Hunting, Part 2 was a company who wanted someone with board level experience to take on a minor company role. The other end of that spectrum is a company that wants someone with little to no experience to take on the world.

I'd love to hear readers experiences job hunting...preferably a good experience.

More from Sweetness to follow...
