Anyway, she's continued her research on the topic and, when I mentioned to her that her email to me got some folks thinking, mentioned she'd be willing to share some follow up information. With her permission, that's going to become another arc in my blog starting with this one.
For those not familiar with Sweetness, she's one of several folks with whom I correspond regularly and who sends me various items they believe will be of interest.
Sweetness' new findings follow:
"I’ve been doing some research on job hunting. Some people I am in touch with are looking for a new job. What they are encountering in this journey is amazing. The people I interviewed agreed to share they’re experiences with me. I’m sure that those of you who are in the job market will empathize with them.
"One interviewee, FG, called a company about a Marketing Manager position which they had applied for. First off, having a phone number and person to contact is a rare treat. This particular position was possibly going to be split into two; the company had already hired one person and asked FG to call back in a day or so and the company would have decided what they wanted to do.
"FG called and the company said that they had decided on hiring just the one person for now. The HR person then told FG that they should continue to call every three weeks and to also look on the company’s web site for future job postings. FG thought great, the HR person is letting them know that there will be future jobs.
"But wait…the HR person then went on to say that the web site wouldn’t be accurate as many of the job posted had already been filled. The company hadn’t updated their web site because they’d “put a lot of time into it and they really liked the way it looked”. So don’t you think that this would be a reason to hire a marketing manager? To keep the web site up to date?"
I agree with FG and with Sweetness that this is a frustrating situation. HR tells the candidate to go to the webpage for more listings and then indicates that the website won't be updated with new postings?
And the reason to not update the website was because they liked the way it looked?
