In part 1, Sweetness shared how resume use has changed over the years. Here Sweetness writes about making resumes search friendly. Note that Sweetness doesn't use those terms (much, anyway), and that the rules of search apply.
Sweetness writes:
"Job hunting today, aside from networking, consists of putting your resume on hundreds of job boards and hoping for the best. Recruiters and companies search these boards looking for the proper buzz words. It's no longer a matter of the best qualified for the position getting it but who can put the right buzz words on their resume so it gets out of the cyber nightmare that's been created. The candidates are also at the mercy of the job application site working properly, many don't.
"Ms. Stafford notes that "Google, for example, uses a screening program to measure applicants' attitudes, behaviors, personality and biographical details. Answers are scrunched in a formula that creates a score, indicating how well the candidate is likely to fare on the job. In some cases, resumes have disappeared from the hiring process completely. Some employers don't even want them in digitized format. They prefer customized online forms, tailor-made to cull the applicant field." One of the problems with this is that the applicant has no way of knowing if they are qualified or not, nor if their application was ever received. Yes, you receive a nice email from the company, but did the Human Resources person download your responses, you never know."
Tomorrow Sweetness shares some concerns about resumes going the way of the dinosaur.
