The tool saves us the trouble of those annoying first reads. Why go through 100 resumes when there's a tool which can quickly pare it down to four or five?
In any case, Sweetness' thoughts follow.
Sweetness writes:
"There was an interesting article that I read today on the Netscape homepage written by Diane Stafford of the McClatchy Newspapers entitled "Resumes have gone way of the dinosaur". In the article Ms Stafford notes "Instead of reading your resume, an employer may ask you to fill out an online form or take an online test that measures how well you "fit" the job, based on responses from successful workers." This has become the normal way to apply for jobs it seems. No matter the level or position.
"Along with the online forms and tests many companies are also asking job applicants to answer questions as to why they believe they are qualified for the position they are applying for. When I was looking for my first job fresh out of college the process was very different. You searched the Help Wanted pages of the newspaper, remember those? Then mailed your resume and cover letter to the Human Resources Department, granted there was no Internet at the time and yes I know I'm dating myself here. The beauty was that you actually had a person you could follow-up with about whether they received the resume, did they have any questions and you could also go over your qualifications with the person. "
We'll continue tomorrow with part 2 of Sweetness' findings on resume dinosaurs.

I'll be speaking at the San Francisco April '07 Emetrics Summit on Quantifying and Optimizing the Human Side of Online Marketing on May 7, 2007. Come on by and say hello.
