
"The network people, though, when confronted with my simpler router that did the same stuff would stare blankly at the straightforward web layout and mumble, "Uh, I'm not familiar with this model."
"This turned out to be true even for the tech support person from the router manufacturer. A router he'd never seen before, even though it did the same stuff and used the same language was completely foreign to him. An evil spirit whose nature cannot be discoverd and whose glance is to be avoided. Fascinating.
"Well, I researched and researched and talked with everybody I knew who knew something about networking. Except the first guy. I already knew he couldn't fix it. I explained to them all, "It's resolving names to IP addresses fine. It's able to ping. It's able to go to the internet and log into its server. Just nobody else. It's like these computers are treating computers on the other side of these routers as being from a different network. Do you think it could be something with different subnets?"
CDFW sends me these things and I listen. I've learned to listen and nod every few sentences. I think it makes us both feel better.
