You can read about CDFW's travails in the CDFW arcs.
"You may recall my long diatribe about networking nearly two months back. As of Friday, we have finally have the solution. In the process, I have learned a few more things about networking, reinforced many beliefs about networking guys, and experienced significant frustration. I must burden you with another diatribe to get it finally flushed from my system. Sorry.
"Not that this is all I've been working on, but it kept jumping up to the top of the priority list every now and then, so I've spent a lot of time on it.
"One of the most interesting things I learned is how universal it seems to be that networking guys really want to dance with the router that brung 'em.
"Through the years, I think I've worked with about a dozen different routers representing, say, half that many brands. None were labelled Cisco, but some had Cisco innards. They vary in how many things they can do, and generally the price goes up along an exponential curve. That is, every extra feature costs about twice as much as the one before. The usability goes down along the same curve."
But wait, folks, it gets better for CDFW...and I'm so glad I don't deal with hardware any more...
I'll be speaking at the San Francisco April '07 Emetrics Summit on Quantifying and Optimizing the Human Side of Online Marketing on May 7, 2007. Come on by and say hello.
