Hey, wait a second. Research? I thought that was my job!
"I have followed your columns for more than a year now, during a transition from pay-per-click marketer to my enrollment in a master's program in information architecture. I am beginning to do preliminary research for my thesis. While the details remain to be nailed down, broadly I intend to investigate online behavior, "irrational" or subjective/hidden user motives, and metaphorical association as it applies to user behavior. To this end, a copy of the bibliography you mention in your article would be incredibly helpful. Thank you very much!
"PS. If you are ever in the Baltimore/DC area on a speaking engagement, please let us your readers know."
Thank you so much for enjoying my columns. Once in a while I get it right and I seemed to have scored well with this one (based on reader response).
Your thesis sounds interesting. I'm tempted to say "I'll show you mine if you'll show me yours" but mine puts me to sleep and it's been years since I wrote it (1991). Never-the-less, let me know if there's some way I can help. I'd enjoy being a first reader, if that helps you. Also, you may find the information in Reading Virtual Minds helpful.
User behavior is a fascinating subject and what follows isn't a salespitch, it's from our Ad Placement Tool page:
"...a deep knowledge of how people respond to webpage based information. It is based on a long history of research into the fields of cognitive psychology, psycho-emotive response, retail anthropology and similar fields, and uses mathematical models based on over 30,000 data points to determine where something needs to be in a person's visual field in order for them to a) remember it and b) have a positive response to it."
I include the quote to let you know I think you're on the right path. This field is rich. I know I'm constantly learning.
You can access the bibliography on my blog at "Websites: You've Only Got 3 Seconds" now on IMediaConnection.
Speaking engagements; I'm always interested in talking and meeting with folks. If there's an event going on down your way please suggest me to the sponsors as a guest speaker. You can also find out more about the trainings and presentations NextStage does on our trainings page.
Please stay in touch and let me know how your studies progress. I don't always get to my emails quickly and I do get to them eventually.
Please contact NextStage for information regarding presentations and trainings on this and other topics.
