KBar sent me an email about quantum computing because yes, I did research in that field for a book I wrote a few years ago (and attention publishers! which we're hoping to re-release some time this year). This time, the link's content didn't catch me so much as an ad on the page; an animated/dynamic bull in just above right center of the screen. This caught me because it's an excellent example of some research NextStage is currently involved in regarding the use of animated images and videos in webpages.
The research is still preliminary and what it's pointing to right now is the ability to measure when something on a webpage is so distracting that the main message on the page is lost. Here's where our research is pointing right now:
- too much animation/autoloading video combined with text and adults (especially adult males) will defocus and lose interest
- too much animation/autoloading video combined with text and younger visitors (again, especially males) will ignore the text completely.
Yes, there'll be more posts and columns about this. Remind me if I forget.
Please contact NextStage for information regarding presentations and trainings on this and other topics.
