Much of the time I find rest in flying my kites by myself or with friends. If I'm staying home, rest means reading, watching movies (I love costume epics), napping, going for walks with my wife, Susan, and our dog, Fenris, listening to or playing music.
Sometimes it means catching up on emails. It's going through my emails which inspired this blog post.
I get emails from folks in all parts of the marketing/advertising/communications/web world. Many times these emails are discussions of client excuses for not doing things or horror stories about engagements gone horribly wrong. I decided to share some of the anecdotes which appear often in these emails.
Reason for not adding a blog or demonstration video to a site during a complete site redesign:
- "That requires significant work to make happen and keep updated."
- "AAAARRRGGHHH!!! Like I need to add in more to my list."
- "We're not doing any sales from the website at this time."
- "When we start doing sales from the web, it won't be at this site."
- "It's purely informational and an avenue for communications and downloading specifications documents."
- "If I found out we weren't satisfying customer needs, I'd feel obligated to do something about it."
- "I'd have to talk management into agreeing to go along with whatever change I wanted to make."
- "Maybe next year."
- "I don't even have any idea of the traffic levels and hope no one gets curious."
