More Thoughts on Blogging
NextStage: Predictive Intelligence, Persuasion Engineering, Interactive Analytics and Behavioral Metrics I'm sitting here going over some notes I've been making on blogging. These deal with my blog, other people's blogs, conversations I'm having with other bloggers, conversations I'm having with people about my blog, ...
A comment I've received more than once is about the level of intimacy of my blogging.

This intrigues me because I don't think I'm being necessarily intimate, just honest. It did cause me to review some research we've been doing which started before blogs were called blogs which also touches on online intimacy.

There's an assumed level of intimacy between a blogger who mixes personal and business information and that blogger's readership. Unless readers respond (either in the blog's comment section or via emails to the blogger or on the phone, etc) regularly the intimacy is not bidirectional and that is a danger. The unknown reader becomes the "fan" who believes their emotional commitment to the blogger's online space means they have access to the blogger outside of that space.

Long ago I wrote a series of best-selling trade technical books and use to get letters (nobody had email back then. Gives you an idea of how old I am and how long ago it was) from readers. I've kept those letters (packratitis) and some of them, well, you wouldn't want to read. I also had a reader come up to me at a conference and demand my time because he paid for my book, therefore he was entitled.

Hmm...
