I wrote in Where's my Social Network?: The Reluctant Blogger, Part 3 that I had no idea if people were responding to my posts in their blogs or not, and in Still learning how to blog that I'd found a tool, CoComment, which seemed to do the trick. The original concern was that I seemed to "walk away" from the water-cooler before anybody could respond. In either case, blogging is not quite an extended office social network because the network dissolves so quickly. We're not even ships passing in the night. This truly is memetic transmission at its best. We don't exist, only our dreams.I read recently that the mammalian species life span is about 2.5 million years, which means the time for homo is just about up. We may truly be witnessing the rise of the Machines.
I don't think you really should be caring about co.comments. Services like that one and co.mments are primarily for people who comment on your blog and want to be able to see when/if you reply. It becomes important to the user who comments all over the place and can't keep track of it but wants to know, did they get a response? (i.e. people like me.)
Why don't you just do a Technorati search for your blog and see what kind of links you have to it? Rarely will bloggers write about you without linking to you. At the same time, set up some kind of alert for your name, your company name, and the name of this blog. You could use Google Alerts. Alerts are not that good yet but are not bad. You will often see your own alerts and linking....
