Quite a while back I had the opportunity to analyze several web analytics packages with a group of clients. All the web analytics packages shared one trait according to their marketing -- they allowed you to visualize traffic, some in real time and some not.The real reason I was in the room was to analyze the clients' reactions to the visualization technology. It was uniformly positive, a big plus for the people creating the packages. One young woman asked the question which I wanted to ask but (because of the paradigm) wasn't allowed to, "Yes, it's pretty, but what good is it?"
I'm going to be investigating these packages again shortly and for entirely different reasons. I'd appreciate hearing both pro and con from people using visualization web analytics packages, and thanks.
