This is a curiosity to me because it seems we're working really hard at connecting to others while we isolate ourselves from them. I can see a use for this service if the grandfolks are on the east coast and the grandkids are on the west and they want to go see a movie together. One of the commentators suggested using this service as a way to go out on a date without everything that can make dating so dangerous these days -- you know, dressing up, deciding where to go for dinner, sharing popcorn.
One reason I found this story so interesting is because a while back Brad Berens asked me to contribute some material to a presentation he was giving to Google and their top clients. What I provided is shown in the following image based on data from the NextStage archives.
What this image is showing is that the number of visitors going to web for video content(red) has been increasing steadily in the past three years. In 2004 the draw was music, now it's video. Lycos may be onto something with their recent offering, and Google's purchase of YouTube was wiser than anybody could have imagined.
